CARLOS BARBOSA-LIMA is celebrating five decades of successful international career. CARLOS'S FIRST CONCERT WITH LACCS
His concert at the Wigmore Hall, was the beginning of a new era for classical guitarists. Carlos was the first performer to introduce a new and fresh repertoire for classical guitar in London international venues. His programme was made entirely of Latin American composers, something new and very attractive for the British audience. The British audience listened for the first time master pieces of Latin repertoire, such as: "Sonata Op 47" by Alberto Ginastera (1916- 1983), one of the most difficult pieces for classical guitar, dedicated to Carlos. Other jewels included then, in his repertoire were: "Sounds of Bells" by Joao Pernambuco (1883-1947), Alfredo Vianna (1890-1973), "Affectionate" and "Whispering", Luiz Bonfa (b.1922), "In the shade of the Mango three", "Morning of Carnaval", from the film "The Black Orpheus" and"Xango", Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959),"Sentimental Melody" from "Forest of the Amazon", and Antonio Carlos Jobim (b.1927-1994), "Modinha, Desafinado, "One Note Samba" and "Stone flower" all European premieres. I also remembered that night held on Monday 16th October 1989 at the Wigmore Hall as an evening of musicianship in haunting lyricism and purity of tone, listening a diverse styles of music, with high sensitivity of his brilliant selection of Brazilian and South American pieces. It was really a concert to be remembered for the history of Latin American Guitar.
