TRIO CON BRIO

jrm.monro@gmail.com

A trio with esprit, wit, charm and fire: characteristics which, many critics would agree, are optimally expressed in its name. This mixed ensemble (guitar, flute and viola) is comprised of three outstanding musicians who place the highest artistic demands on their work.

Since its creation in 1990, the group has harvested enthusiastic reactions and critical acclaim with its varied and often unconventional repertory. Artists such as Sergio Assad, Leo Brouwer, Egberto Gismonti and others have composed works specifically for the Trio. Beside their own spectacular arrangements the Trio has also rediscovered neglected and forgotten works of the eighteenth and nineteenth century.

Trio Con Brio has received grants from Villa Musica, Rheinland-Pfalz and the Baden-Wurttemberg Ministry of Culture. Concert tours and numerous Radio and TV appearances have earned the Trio a prominent place in the international music scene.

In 1997 the first CD, "Impressions", was released world-wide by Koch International (DICD 920497).
"Nachtmusik" featuring romantic literature, is published by Animato (ACD 6047).
Besides "artistic accomplishment" and "impressive virtuosity" the press praises the "ravishing aura" of the ensemble, the "refreshing lack of convention", and enjoys "soulful opulent feasts for the ear fed by orchestra-like soundscapes".
